Closing Down

It is with a very heavy heart and much regret that I have to announce the closure of Grandma’s Attic after 9 very happy years trading.  I survived the recession, warm winters and a lack of tourists in the area but I cannot compete with internet sales any longer.  I have resisted selling on line because I love the contact with customers and the reaction when they walk into my shop.  It has been the hub of the community for years with classes and charity knitters meeting weekly whatever the weather.  To those people I am eternally grateful for your support.  To all my customers, past and present i give you a heartfelt THANKYOU for all the laughter and tears of projects successfully made or destined to the ravel fairy!  I have learned so much from all of you and I hope that you have all gained something from your visit to Grandma’s Attic.

I intend to close the doors for the last time towards the end of April so you have time to replenish your stock, use up any vouchers or collect yarn put away.  I will of course honour any outstanding vouchers even after I am closed and will leave a contact number on here and on the shop front.

The local charity shop in Belleek is “adopting” my Wednesday charity knitters so I am very happy that they will continue the good work, knitting boobs, cushions, teddies for tragedy, fish and chip jumpers, hat and scarves for the homeless and no doubt many other projects in the future.  They are a wonderful bunch of ladies who I have grown very fond of and consider them all my “Irish family”!  Who knows, I may even join them now and be able to enjoy the craic without the interruption of customers!!

As for the other classes, well the quilting class will continue at my home, once a month in “Shirley’s shed” and the thursday night class will change to a Knit and Natter group also in “Shirley’s shed”.  More details on them to follow as “Shirley’s shed” is yet to be constructed!!

The remainder of my stock will hopefully be moving to a new location and again more details of that to follow when all is finalised.

Once again I would like to thank you all for your loyal custom and wish you many happy years creating.

Crochet A Granny Square

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO YOU ALL.  MAY 2016 BE CREATIVE, CRAFTY AND FULL OF FUN!

Christmas is over and the Turkey’s all gone.  Its time to polish your cochet hooks and learn something new. Are you one of the many people who can crochet as long as “someone starts me off”!  WELLLLLLL

If this sounds familiar then look no further.  It is my mission this year to teach everyone who wants to know how to crochet a granny square, and lots of other squares come to that, and make a patchwork blanket that will be personal to you.  The first class will be held on Tuesday 12th January , starting at 10.30 a.m.  The cost will be £6.00 per person for 2 hours.  Initially we will run this class for 6 weeks but if you want to continue after that then we will.  Hopefully this will allow those of you that have children at school the time to come along without the need for babysitters etc.  This class is also run on a pay as you attend basis so no big money to pay on the first week and then worrying if you can’t make it every week.  You will work at your own speed and can make your blanket as big or as small as you like.  Also you can make it in as many or as few colours as you like.  We will learn a new square every week and you can make as many different ones as you like.

Even if you can already crochet you are more than welcome to come along and share with us your favourite square.   Grandma’s Attic is a very sociable place to be and the kettle is always on!DSCF4370

Esthers Quilting Class

Due to unforeseen circumstances Esther will no longer be holding her quilting class at Grandma’s Attic.  Please contact her directly for further details.

Please also note that this does not in any way affect any other classes at Grandma’s Attic and the first quilting class will go ahead as planned starting on the 23rd January.

CLASSES FOR 2016

Hello all knitters, crocheters and quilters

In 2016 it is my intention to run more classes and hopefully introduce more of you lovely people to the wonderful world of wool and fabric.

I will be running classes for beginners and the more advanced among you.  For example, how many times have you thought about making a granny square and can’t remember how to start!!  Or you want to use up a bit of yarn and crochet a hat for someone and just cant get it to sit or fit right!  How many of you can cast on and knit garments but then lose heart when it comes to sewing up!  Ever wanted to do cables? If you can relate to any of these, then they are just a few of the things we will be covering and any suggestions as to what you would like to learn or make will be gratefully received and considered.

For the more advanced crocheters I am going to be guiding you through making an intricate blanket over a period of several weeks, and again ideas are welcome.

I am intending running the classes through the day time rather than the evening so those of you who don’t like to be out on dark nights they will suit you perfectly.

I will let you know when I have definite dates, times and projects.  There should be no need to book these classes and they will be run on the basis that you pay only for classes attended.  As always tea and goodies will be included in the cost.

I look forward to your feedback and to a very creative 2016

New Quilting Class 2016

Due to popular demand I am starting a beginners quilting class on January 23rd 2016. At this class we will be making a cot size quilt from a jelly roll.  For those of you new to this terminology I will try to explain!  A jelly roll is strips of matching fabrics that we will join together in a magical fashion that will eventually become a quilt!!

2015-10-20 20.23.542015-10-25 23.48.45

It is a very easy and a fantastic introduction to the wonderful world of quilting.  You do not need to have any experience, although  a sewing machine is handy!

The class will run all day from 10 till 5 with a break for lunch, and the price of the class is £25 which will include your lunch but NOT the fabric.  I will have a selection of rolls for sale on the day or you can purchase and bring your own along.  I will also have the wadding, binding etc for sale.  The average cost for a jelly roll is £12.  Bring your sewing machine (if you have one) and everything you have to go with it, threads, needles etc. and we can begin!!  If you don’t have a machine then don’t despair, we do a have a spare one, but it is much handier to work on your own machine then you can continue at home and you won’t be waiting for a “turn”.

As we have limited space for this class booking is essential.  Please book your place as soon as possible and do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.  you can get me over the holiday period on (0044)7739794029 or during opening hours on 02868659955 or from the republic 04868659955.

I look forward to a very creative 2016.

Quilting classes

In January I am going to be holding a beginner’s introduction to quilting class.  Times and dates are not set yet but would like to know if anyone is interested and if so, could you please let me know as soon as possible.  I was thinking of starting the classes with a baby quilt made from a jelly roll!  Not strawberry jelly and cream but strips of fabric that when joined together make a beautiful quilt.  The picture shows a king size quilt using 2 large jelly rolls.  They are very simple to make and a good introduction to quilting. 2015-10-25 23.48.45
